The Obligatory Post-BAFTA…Post…
This is my small town American woman opinion on the BAFTA Ceremony that took place: I can’t have one.
Seriously, I can’t. It would would be a completely biased opinion that isn’t based on anything except for the fact that I watch Sherlock. Allow me to break this down.
Andrew Scott- I congratulate you with a full heart. As a fan of the show and of Sherlock Holmes as a whole, you have completely reinvented to the character of James Moriarty. You deserve the award for your dedication, devotion, and life that you brought to something that could have been easily tired. I felt like a proud mama. I solute you. (and I want to sip champagne with you)
Moving on. Other than Martin Freeman, I have no idea who he was up against. I am not well versed in British television and film. This goes with the entire ceremony. Other than the three nominees in from Sherlock, I have no idea who was nominated or what their work was. All I knew is that I watched ONE show and I just happen to really enjoy it. Naturally, I am going to root for these three men.
However, there seemed to have been a spat on tumblr and twitter while I was at work. I am not going to sit here and type about petty differences because it should go without saying. I will say this about Benedict Cumberbatch: he is lovely, gracious, and kind. His work is transcendent as is the universal admiration for him. His work ethic as an actor is evident and yes he worked very hard with put a lot of love and passion into Series 2. I applaud him. I do no know what he was up against. Everyone in the category, I am 99.99% sure worked very hard and had many a sleepless night partaking in their particular projects. None of them just woke up and did their job without effort. I have zero doubts that they all deserved to be there. Benedict no winning is not the end all be all. He is a strong and talented actor who will be working (if he chooses to) for decades, that I am sure of. You can not take away from the winners, but congratulate them on a job well done.
Saying that Benedict’s “day will come” makes me a bit sad because I feel like every day is his day. Each day he has a plethora of fans that devote hours of time into artwork, fan fiction, or even just admiration of his work. He has supports all across the globe that care for him and have his back. We watch the many films and miniseries and even flock to theatres to see Frankenstein. He has a support system that, I think, is greater than any 2012 award. He has a promising career a head of him and people that will support him along the way, outside of his friends and family.
We here on tumblr are a family, no matter where we are from. We are bonded by a common interest and you can’t have that common interests tear you apart.
